The Three Holy Spirit Gifts of Revelation

Today we will be taking a closer look at the three Gifts of revelation – when God reveals to us supernaturally His secrets.

The Word of Wisdom, the Word of Knowledge and Discerning of Spirits are the three Supernatural “Knowing” Gifts

We must understand the Holy Spirit Gifts are not natural, they are supernatural coming down from heaven for the needed moment in time.

James tells us about Natural wisdom: If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives liberally to those who ask Him. “the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” 

Realize that these natural unctions are NOT the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians, but they are God-glorifying natural wisdom, natural understanding and natural discernment, obtained by study and listening to the Holy Spirit and built up in your soul and spirit. Sort of an intuition - - the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning:

Proverbs chapter two tells us about natural wisdom, understanding and discernment.

Proverbs 2: 1-12 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for  hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

For the Lord gives wisdom; - - from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.

Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from persons of perverted speech

Natural wisdom is often likened to perception - - perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the natural five senses; taste, smell, see, feel, hear. It is a knowing.

Supernatural Word of Wisdom

The spiritual gift of Word of Wisdom, is the supernatural dropping into the heart of the person, by the Holy Spirit, an “utterance of wisdom” to solve a problem, give answers, bring direction and assist in preventing a disaster by revealing solutions.

The person with the gift of Word of Wisdom can easily recognize where a decision or action may lead and can warn against those that may be harmful or unfruitful. They can often see through the confusion of a situation and can give direction that would help an individual or group obtain a God-glorifying goal.

The Spiritual Gift of Word of Knowledge –

The Holy Spirit gift of the Word of Knowledge is also a speaking gift that involves insight that only comes by revelation from the heart of God. The Word of Knowledge is a companion gift to the Word of Wisdom.

Some have mistakenly said, the Word of Knowledge helps you to understand the Bible better. While we do often need help to understand the Bible, the fact is the Holy Spirit Gift of the Word of Knowledge is supernatural and is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit and not a natural talent or ability.

The Word of Knowledge is simply the Holy Spirit transmitting His specific knowledge to you on something that you would have no ability or means to be able to know about with your own limited intelligence and knowledge levels.

It is supernatural knowledge and insight being given directly to you by the Holy Spirit Himself, not by your own mind or your own intelligence levels.

These words of knowledge that you can receive direct from the Holy Spirit can literally cover an infinite number of things in your daily life.

This gift often includes a vision of seeing a situation that is going on or was previously happening, so that there may be a confrontation – one on one; or later as God reveals the time to act, or to simply pray about it.

Just because God tells you a supernatural secret about someone it is important that you keep it to yourself and not gossip to your close prayer partners. If it is to be told, God will let you know - if and when.

Discerning of Spirits is the third and Last Gift of revelation.

Discerning of Spirits is another “knowing” gift – it is a gift of being able to see into the Spirit World.

To Supernaturally see visibly into the Spirit world both of angels and demons. Angels are protectors and helpers, and demons can be commanded to leave using the Name of Jesus and the power in His blood.

This knowing gift may include virtual visions that are not seen by others; but God is showing you their presence for a reason which will be revealed to you. This gift is NOT aided by the natural mind and it is a supernatural happening.

This gift in operation may allow one with the gift to perceive and have insight into the dispositions and motives of persons and their both good and evil tendencies. It may also reveal a spirit or demon who is oppressing or possessing a person.

This gift may also be given to determine if demon power is causing a sickness or affliction.

This gift is necessary when the leadership is selecting helpers for the work of the Lord.

God may grant insight into the spiritual world by this gift to enable you to minister to someone in need.

These three are the knowing gifts, and Paul urges us to earnestly seek the Best Holy Spirit Gifts.

So then, which gifts are the best? The answer is the one that is needed at the time. All of the gifts are important and we as believers may be used of God to exercise one or more of the gifts as the need arises.
