Bible Foundations: Lesson 27 Subject: “Locating the Enemy”

Image
Bible Foundations: Lesson 27 Subject: “Locating the Enemy” Our first need is to be “Born Again” - - to be delivered from darkness into God's light, and transformed from spiritual death into God's everlasting Life. Our second need is to please God, by obeying His Word and living according to His will. There is a growth process in the Christian life. We discover that there are “problems” (or enemies) that would prevent us from being everything that God desires for us to be IN Him. Colossians 2:6-7  Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and be overflowing with thankfulness. There are other enemies besides the devil, and God has provided His armor to protect us. His Holy Spirit is in us and will HELP US in ALL areas of our life. 1. Our first enemy is - - THE MIND: There is a need to discipline our thoughts. 1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds f

Who is Jesus? Part 32 A Sinful Woman is Forgiven (taken from Luke 7)

Who is Jesus? Part 32 A Sinful Woman is Forgiven (taken from Luke 7) Jesus had been traveling and teaching for many hours and the day was nearing evening. One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to come to his home and eat with him, and so he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at a table.  And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that Jesus was having a meal in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of sweet-smelling ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and she kissed his feet, anointing them with the ointment.  Now when the Pharisee who had invited Jesus viewed all this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known what sort of woman this is touching him, for she is a sinner.”  And Jesus knowing The Pharisee's thoughts said to him,  “Simon, I have something to say to you.”  And he answered, “Go ahead and sa

Bible Foundations Lesson 26 – Subject: AUTHORITY OF THE BELIEVER

Image
Bible Foundations Lesson 26 – Subject: AUTHORITY OF THE BELIEVER If someone were to say “We can do anything that God says we can do” we would immediately agree. In that brief statement lies the “Authority of the Believer.” If God says something, it must be true. We are everything that God says we are and we can do everything God says we can do. God has established limits in the Bible, we must have faith and believe what He says. We often limit ourselves and God's potential in us because of not being aware of what God has established for us. There are two kinds of ignorance: First – Not knowing about it at all - and second; Not knowing how to use what we already have because we are unaware it is ours to use. God doesn't want us to “lack wisdom or knowledge. We receive instruction, that we may profit thereby. 1 Timothy 4:15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.  What does God say about our authority? Mark 16:17-18 s

Who is Jesus? Part 31 "Jesus Heals a Centurion's Servant and Raises a Widow's Son"

Who is Jesus? Part 31 "Jesus Heals a Centurion's Servant and Raises a Widow's Son" Today's happenings about Jesus are taken from the Gospel of Luke chapter 7 After Jesus had finished a long session of teaching the people, he departed and entered the city of Capernaum.  Now a High-ranking Centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, and the servant was highly thought of and was like one of the family. When the noble Centurion heard about Jesus, he sent a message to Jesus by way of the elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant.  And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, "This man is worthy to have you do this for him, because he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue."   So Jesus turned to go with them to the man's home. Now when he was close by the house, the Centurion sent Jesus a message by his friends, saying to him; "Lord, do not trouble yoursel

Entering the Holy Place – Properly Dressed Being properly clothed is important. When a person goes for a job interview, it would be wise to dress for success. First impressions are often made by the appearance of the applicant. A person's  attitude and how they feel about themselves is often revealed by the visual aspect. The Bible mentions spiritual garments for the Christian . We often consider the armor of God mentioned in Ephesians chapter 6, as we cloth ourselves for the tasks of the day.  " Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore,  take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having do

Bible Foundations Lesson 25 – Subject: FASTING

Image
Bible Foundations Lesson 25 – Subject: FASTING Fasting should be a part of every Christian's life, just as prayer and study. Without Fasting, we can never be the person of God that he wants us to be. Fasting is necessary to complete Christian growth. 1. What is fasting? Fasting is an aid, a tool to help you spiritually. Fasting is to abstain from food only. Be sure to drink water during a fast. To abstain from both food and water would take a supernatural intervention from God.  Our bodies can go without food for a number of days, but to go without water for just a few days would be harmful to our health. Fasting can be for any length of time, from one meal to several days. The “Jewish fast” was usually one day and ended at sundown. Often it was only the evening meal, but there is no set rule. If you have a health problem, such as diabetes, you should consider taking a glass of fruit juice at meal and break times, and also include plenty of water to keep your bo

Who is Jesus? Chapter 30 Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery

Who is Jesus? Chapter 30 Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery As he often did, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives to pray, and about dawn he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down to teach them.  Soon the Religious leaders and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and had her stand before them. They said to Jesus; “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such a women.  So what do you say?”  This they said to test him, so they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to question him, he stood up and said to them;  “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”   And once more he stooped down and continued to write in the dust.    (I have often wondered what Jesus was writing in the dust of the ground. Do you suppose he was writing the names of

Remitting Sins

Image
Remitting Sins In the Old Testament and under the old covenant, the Priest would lay hands on the sacrificial animal and remit the sins of the people into the animal. The animal was then slain, and the blood was placed on the alter, the animal was sacrificed, and the sins of the people were forgiven for that day and time. The laying on of hands on the animal's head was symbolic of placing the sin of someone human into the representation of a sacrifice that would absolve and forgive their sin. All this was a picture of a future event in time, when Jesus would take our sins on his own body on the tree and be the one-time sacrifice for sin. Jesus paid it all when he died on the cross for you and for me. He paid for a total salvation, for you and for me, which includes our spirit, when we invite Jesus to live in us, salvation for our soul, which is our mind, will and emotions, and salvation for our body which is frail and subject to disease and sickness.   We are a three-part p

Bible Foundations lesson 24: Subject: Laying on of Hands

Image
Bible Foundations lesson 24: Subject: Laying on of Hands We have teacher training classes, lessons, on how to be a deacon, and leadership seminars. There are soul winning and witnessing classes. Preachers go to school and learn how to preach, and some first efforts are pretty shaky. There are some spiritual truths that we need training and practice, while we learn. We don't always enter in overnight, but we exercise by doing as we learn. What were the eleven words spoken by Jesus, right before He left this earth and went straight up in the air to heaven? He said; “You shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” That means to get well and not be sick anymore. Although some are repelled by the thought of having someone lay their hand on them for a need in their lives, it is nevertheless a fact of scripture that the touch of one's hands who is directed by God, can have a tremendous impact. Laying on of hands is found throughout the Bible, both in the New and

Who is Jesus? Chapter 29 "Jesus Says some Puzzling Words"

Who is Jesus? Chapter 29 Jesus Says some Puzzling Words (this message is taken from John 6) Although Jesus ministered from boats, many times he taught out in the desert or on a mountain top, and it was often that he taught in the Jewish Synagogue. One Sabbath day as he taught in the synagogue located in Capernaum, the people found him there and asked: “Rabbi, when did you come here?” Jesus answered them, “Of a truth, you are seeking me, because you ate your full of the loaves and fishes. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. Then they said to him, “How must we do the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him who God has sent.” Jesus then said to them, “I tell you the truth, indeed Moses gave you manna, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world
