Water Baptism Lesson 9

Image
Water Baptism Lesson 9 The question of “Why be Baptized will be discussed in this and succeeding lessons. First, Jesus commanded it and if we knew nothing more, this should be enough. Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Peter preached Water Baptism in his first message. Acts 2:37-38 Now when they heard  this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men  and  brethren, what shall we do?” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the  remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Water Baptism is basic Bible doctrine. Hebrews 6:1-3 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary  principles  of Christ, let us go on

Who is Jesus? Chapter 11 Jesus Declares – He is the Messiah

Image
Who is Jesus? Chapter 11 Jesus Declares – He is the Messiah We will consider some of the first things Jesus did as He began his earthly ministry. After being baptized by John in the River Jordan, Jesus departed to a desert place to fast and pray for 40 days. While there Jesus overcame the temptations of Satan in the wilderness, by using the Word of God to defeat the devil. After a long fast of 40 days, Jesus was hungry, and the devil told him, "If you are God's son, you can make bread out of these stones."  Jesus used scripture to defeat Satan, and told the devil, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word from the mouth of God.” Satan again tempted Jesus by taking him to a high place, and suggested that Jesus throw himself down, and that the Bible says God's angels will protect you and you won't be hurt. Jesus again used scripture and told satan; “You shall not tempt the Lord your God.” Jesus was using wisdom, because it is not a good thin

Terrors in the Night?

Image
Terrors in the Night? I listened to my husband's breath as he slept. He seemed so at peace, and then suddenly - he stopped breathing. I waited, for what seemed a very long, and then his breathing began again. One breath after another. Much later he told me a story about when he was a child. He and his brother shared a single bed, and they could hear their mother ranting on and on. Their dad told her to be quiet and let him sleep, but she kept on talking. Suddenly, from out from under dad's pillow, he took a gun and shot it into the night. And then all was quiet, so very quiet. Oh what terror this was to those two young boy's. They had no idea if their mom was dead or alive. They held their breath in fear not wanting to know all that had occurred. Their imaginations were actively going wild. The next morning, their mother was preparing breakfast as if nothing had happened, and dad was drinking his coffee, but later the boys discovered a hole in the wall made

Bible Foundations – Subject: WATER BAPTISM Lesson 8

Bible Foundations – Subject: WATER BAPTISM Lesson 8  The commission and commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ is to: “Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20 The portion of this 'command' we are concerned with is Water Baptism. Please notice that there is a command by Jesus to be water baptized. Water Baptism is one of God's triune witnesses in earth to make the complete Christian. 1 John 5:8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one. As the people of the Old Testament were brought under obligation to the law by their baptism in the cloud and in the sea, we also are set apart and set apart by Baptism. 1 Corinthians 10:1-2 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all p

Who is Jesus? Chapter 10 - - Three days and Three Nights

Who is Jesus?  Chapter 10 - - Three days and Three Nights As we continue our journey to discover who is Jesus, we are reminded that in the Old Testament there were prophesies and also pictures showing Jesus as the Messiah. Today we shall take a short view of Jonah one of the rebellious prophets as he decided to run from the commands of the Lord. God told Jonah to go preach to Nineveh and tell them to repent or else in 40 days their city would be destroyed. Jonah decided NOT to obey, because in his mind he felt the wicked city needed punishment, so he entered a ship going in the opposite direction. Jonah was judging and was going his own willful way. (Isn't that like us at times? We know what we should do, but because of our stubborn heart, we get ourselves in trouble and that is exactly what happened to Jonah.) The Bible says a great storm arose, not just a gentle rainstorm, but a gigantic fierce hurricane with dashing explosive waves. Reading from Jonah chapter one:

How Then Should we Pray???

How Then Should we Pray??? Many of us begin our prayer life with a night time poem;  "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my Soul to keep.  If Jesus comes before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take."   Our mother may have taught us to pray before we eat, perhaps saying the simple poem; "God is great, God is good, and I thank Him for this food." We progress and learn to  recite the Lord's prayer, Honoring Our Father which is in heaven, hallowed be your name. Jesus taught this prayer is an example of how we come to God with our daily needs and desires - first in worship and adoration, and being able to submit to his will. There are other prayers that we need to also consider, and that is intercession and praying for others. Paul suggests to first pray for leaders to make wise decisions as they rule over us. This leads to peace and the honest spreading of the true gospel so that citizens may be saved. 1 Timothy 2:1-6 - I exhort therefore, that,

Bible Foundations: subject: Repentance Lesson 7

BIBLE FOUNDATIONS: subject: Repentance Lesson 7 Repentance is often thought of as a state of sorrow for having done wrong, and much tears. Although that has a part in repentance it is only a small part of the whole.. Repentance is a condition of the heart. A tender attitude; to actually turn and go in a different direction. 2 Corinthians 7:8-10 For even if I made you grieve with my letter of correction, I do not regret it - - for I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you sorrowed into repenting. For godly sorrow produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, where as worldly grief produces death. To repent is to Make a Decision to: Have a change of mind. (A  resolution to change.) Have a change of attitude. (This leads to a state of penitence where our whole nature is changed to conform to God's grace and desire.) Have a change of outward actions. (Our works or outward activity will always conform to any inner change.) R

Who is Jesus? Chapter 9 Jesus begins to Minister and does his first Miracle

Image
Who is Jesus? Chapter 9 Jesus begins to Minister . The earthly ministry of Jesus is recorded in the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. You may wonder why there are four gospels. As we think about it, we are reminded that in the mouth or two or three witnesses there is truth. Many of the happenings are repeated, but some give accounts not found in the other three gospels. All four point to Jesus as the Messiah. Angels proclaimed who Jesus was! Luke chapter 1:35 The Angel Gabriel appeared to the virgin Mary announcing that she was highly favored and chosen to become the mother of the son of God; and you shall call his name, Jesus. Mary was very frightened, and the words disturbed her greatly, but the angel assured her this was God's plan for redemption. The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; for that reason also the holy Child will be called the Son of the Most High God. Althoug
