A Tale of Two Cities

Image
A Tale of Two Cities In school, many were required to read the book A Tale of Two Cities  a  1859 historical novel by Charles Dickens, during the French Revolution. Today I want to speak to you about two cities in the Bible. The first city was Nineveh and God desired to save it; but the prophet Jonah did not want to go there and preach, because he felt they deserved to be punished because of their wickedness. In his heart he refused to pray over them a blessing as he thought it would be God's justice to destroy them all, so he ran the other way. Of course that only got Jonah in trouble, because now he was in rebellion - - and in God's sight he was a guilty as the evil persons in that city. However after being swallowed by a whale, and a long three days, and being vomited out on dry land Jonah went to Nineveh to preach. Yes the people listened and the people repented and worshiped God; so God decided NOT to destroy

It's Only a Small Penny

Image
It's Only a Small Penny Have you ever been walking and stepped over a penny because you felt it wasn't worth picking it up? After all it was only a penny and is not valued at much?? But 100 pennies make up one dollar and now we are talking about something we can use.  We often view little things to be - - of not much worth, but that is not how God looks at small things. God is looking today for willing and obedient believers who will go forth in His name. We come today to pray over our City, our State and our Nation, and we are only a small group in our eyes, but when God looks at us he sees us as powerful weapons as our prayers and declarations rise to heaven touching the angels and sending them out to execute answers according to God's will. Today we will look at some little things in the Bible, some so silly we wonder why they are even mentioned. The disciples of Jesus did not consider the small boys lunch of a few biscuits and some tiny

Who Is Jesus? Chapter 20 Jesus Declares "I AM He"

Who Is Jesus? Chapter 20 Jesus Declares "I AM He" Our story today is taken from John chapter 4. Jesus and his disciples left Judea and departed again for Galilee.  And in His spirit Jesus knew it was necessary that he go through Samaria.  Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, decided to sit beside the well; He was tired and waiting - Because his disciples had gone into the city to buy food as it was about noon time. A woman with a bad reputation, came from the city of Samaria to draw water. Jesus spoke to her and said;  "Give me a drink." The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)  Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."  The

Waters the Light and the Word

Waters, the Light and the Word Genesis chapter one tells us about the beginning:  Genesis 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. - - John in his gospel, Establishes that Jesus was there in the beginning with God the Father and the Holy Spirit and that Jesus had a part in creating this world. In the new Testament, John chapter one, looks back at the beginning and John says, John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not put it out. John is speaking about Jesus being the WORD, and John is saying that Jesus is the Light of t

Going Out and Coming In

Image
Come, Lord Jesus Going Out and Coming In "Coming out," to society parties celebrating a young woman's coming of age and ready for marriage are s teeped in tradition, with an emphasis on gracious manners and beloved rituals. The queen of England outlawed the practice in 1958 but many still celebrate this ritual for young women of 17 or 18 to be introduced to society. There is coming a day when we shall have a celebration second to none at the marriage supper of the Lamb. All those in Christ shall be there, those from all walks of life shall be robed as royal brides. Today we will consider some situations in the Bible where there was a going out and a coming in . Lock Down and Stay at Home Orders remind me of some Bible verses that may encourage us today. Joshua 6:1 “Now Jericho was tightly shut because of the sons of Israel; no one went out and no one came in.” The reason for this lock-down for the enemy inside Jericho, was that th

Defend Yourself

Defend Yourself Are you Packing? Have you ordered your gun? I am not suggesting that you buy a gun, but there are definitely times when you need to be ready to defend yourself.  The Bible tells us to equip ourselves with Spiritual Armour because our battle is not with flesh and blood.  Today we are going to take a look at defense, and both sides of the war. 'Speak softly and carry a big stick'  'Speak softly and carry a big stick' is a proverbial saying advising the tactic of caution and non-aggression, backed up by the ability to carry out violent action if required. And Jesus Christ said to them (his twelve disciples), "When I sent you (on training missions) without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything? . . . But now you need to carry your purse and your bag and be equipped . . . he who has no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one . . . For the things concerning Me have

What is Truth?

Image
What is Truth? We read in  John 18:37-38  Then Pilate said to Jesus,  “What is truth?”  “So you are a king?” Jesus answered,  “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and  for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth.  Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Today with the situations that we face - it is difficult to know what is true and what is false. There is so much about Fake News, with it's spins and twists. You see a headline that shocks you into reading it, then you realize they have given you nothing but melted ice and a vapor.   The statics are being padded to show large numbers of people with the virus when the truth is for the medical profession and others to profit financially. Edgar Allen Poe wrote in one of his stories:  Believe nothing you hear, and only half of what you see.   I think this could apply to the News and media of today. Early in the Bible Satan told Eve a half truth, and
