Who is Jesus? Chapter 9 Jesus begins to Minister and does his first Miracle

Who is Jesus? Chapter 9 Jesus begins to Minister .

The earthly ministry of Jesus is recorded in the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. You may wonder why there are four gospels. As we think about it, we are reminded that in the mouth or two or three witnesses there is truth. Many of the happenings are repeated, but some give accounts not found in the other three gospels. All four point to Jesus as the Messiah.

Angels proclaimed who Jesus was!

Luke chapter 1:35 The Angel Gabriel appeared to the virgin Mary announcing that she was highly favored and chosen to become the mother of the son of God; and you shall call his name, Jesus. Mary was very frightened, and the words disturbed her greatly, but the angel assured her this was God's plan for redemption. The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; for that reason also the holy Child will be called the Son of the Most High God.

Although Mary did not understand it all, she said, “behold I am the handmaiden of the Lord, let it be according to what you have said,” and the angel left her.

On the night of Jesus' birth; Luke 2: 10-14 shares: An angel appearing to shepherds as they watched their flocks.

The shepherds had never seen angels, and they were terrified. But the messenger angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find the baby wrapped in soft cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” The angels sang Glory to God in the Highest. They rejoiced at the Birth of Jesus. - - We are told that the shepherds immediately went to find the new born baby, and they worshipped him.

Mary the mother of Jesus, pondered in her heart all that was happening to them, and as the young child grew, he studied the scriptures and increased in wisdom, in statue and in favor with God and man.

At age 30 Jesus began his earthly ministry, and one day after he had fasted 40 days and nights and passed the tests by satan, The angels ministered to him and fed him food and water. Soon afterwards Jesus approached John who was baptizing in the River Jordan. John 1:29 John Proclaimed: “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" John was aware that Jesus was to be the sacrifice for our sins. Although John at first refused to baptize Jesus, he finally agreed and we remember God the Father was pleased and voiced his approval, and the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit rested on Jesus in the likeness of a dove.

As Jesus began to minister, very often it was in the temple as he would read the scrolls with the Word of God and expound on their meaning.

The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.

Mark chapter one shares that evil spirits knew who Jesus was; One day while Jesus was teaching, a man at the synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”

The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people watching all this - - were all both terrified and amazed so that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching; and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him.”

Jesus began to select His disciples and Philip brought to him his friend Nathaniel later named Bartholomew. John 1:45-50 Jesus told Nathaniel, behold a man in whom is no guile. I saw you when you were under the fig tree. At those words Nathaniel declared: "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel." Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than this."

Jesus went about teaching, preaching, healing the sick, and casting out evil spirits.

This was amazing to the people and they brought the sick and troubled persons to Jesus pushing and crowding him, so much so that Jesus had to find a place in the desert or a mountain to rest and pray.

John chapter 2 Records the first miracle at a wedding. As the celebration lasted into the night, the hosts ran out of wine. Mary told Jesus, but He was not concerned, however Mary urged the servants to do what ever Jesus asked them to do. Jesus told the servants to collect the large water pots and fill them with water. After this was done, He then told them to take a sample to the host of the wedding. When it was tasted, it was proclaimed, "Why have you saved the best wine until the last."

The disciples of Jesus were observing all Jesus was doing and they believed on him.

They became "friends" with Jesus, spending quality time with him and learning to know Him in a personal way.

Today, Jesus desires that you also would come to Him and receive Him as your Personal Savior, Lord and friend. You can talk to Jesus as a friend and trust Him with all your secrets. He understands and he is there to help you to become all that you can be.

Jesus has also promised to protect, to help and guide you and to never leave or forsake you. If you have never invited Jesus into your life, you can do that today, Just say the words, Lord Jesus, I believe your are the Son of God, I believe you died for my sins, I believe you rose from the dead, and I invite you into my life.
