Bible Foundations Lesson 6:   “SALVATION” (For the Total Person)

Often we think of Salvation or being “Saved” only in a “religious” sense. That is - - only in our spirit, giving us eternal life and a promise of heaven when it is our time to depart from this earth. However the word Salvation has a deeper meaning and covers the total person, spirit, soul and body.

The words 'saved and salvation' are translated from two Greek words “Sozo” and “Soteria.”

It is interesting to note that the translators translated these two words into a number of different English words in order to express the intended thought. In doing this the full meaning of these words is brought out as we shall see in the scriptures that follow.

Health: Acts 27:34 So for your own preservation, I urge you to eat something, because not a single hair of your head will be lost.”

Healed: Acts 14:9 This man was listening to the words of Paul, who looked intently at him and saw that he had faith to be healed.

Mark 5:23 He begged Jesus earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.”
Luke 8:36 They also who had seen it told them by what means he who had been demon- possessed was healed.

Preserved: 2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever.

Do Well: John 11:12 Then His disciples said, “Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.”

Be Whole: Matthew 9:21-22 For she said within herself,

If I do but touch his garment, I shall be made wholeMark 10:52 Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has saved (healed) you.” Immediately he could see and began to follow Jesus on the road.

Luke 8:49-50 While He was still speaking, someone arrived from the house of the synagogue leader.  "Your daughter is dead," he told Jairus.  "Do not trouble the Teacher anymore."  But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”…

Acts 4:9 Peter replied, If we are being examined today about a kind service to a man who was lame, to determine how he was healed - -

Saved – Save

Mark 8:35 For whoever might desire to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life on account of Me and of the gospel, he will save it.

Mark 15:31 In the same way, the chief priests and scribes mocked Him among themselves, saying, “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself!

Luke 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.

1 Corinthians 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know Him.  God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up;

Mark 16:16 He that believes and is baptized shall be saved - - but he that believes not shall be damned.

Luke 18:42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive your sight: your faith hath saved you.

1 Timothy 2:15 Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control. (have an easy time of giving birth)

1 Peter 3:21 And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Salvation:

Romans 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek.

Romans 10:10 For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

2 Timothy 3:15 That from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

When we see the full meaning of Salvation to include our spirit, our Soul which is in regard to our mental outlook, our thoughts, mind, will and emotions and also salvation for our physical bodies. We understand that God is concerned for the whole or total person, and has made provision for us as a package deal. We receive eternal life through the complete ministry of Jesus which includes many benefits along the way.

We have been saved, healed and delivered at the cross. Now we must study further, and learn to depend on the Holy Spirit who will teach us how to walk in all that God has provided for us in Christ Jesus.
