SUBJECT: The Bible – The Word of God Lesson 1 Part 1

SUBJECT: The Bible – The Word of God Lesson 1   Part 1

Smith Wigglesworth said: “Never say this book contains the Word of God, but say;  - - -
       - - -  “THIS IS THE WORD OF GOD.”

The Bible is God's written expression of His will to man. When we consider that it is God speaking to man, it should never be considered as just instruction in a general sense, but God's instruction to me as a person. In other words, each of us should read the Bible with the thought in mind that; “God is speaking to me.

James 1:21-22 declares; Receive with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Hebrews 4:12 The Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword.

      1. Where did our Bible come from?   God is the source
        1 Thessalonians 2:13
And we continually thank God because, when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as the true word of God—the word which is now at work in you who believe.

      1. How was our Bible given? Holy Men divinely inspired wrote the Word of God - - -

2 Timothy 3:16 declares; All Scripture is breathed out by God (given by inspiration) and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost.

Galatians 1:11-12 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

      1. How is the Bible understood?
Man can only understand the Word of God by the Holy Spirit, the teacher. The Holy Spirit will bring to our remembrance but we first must study it so He can do this.

Jesus is speaking in John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Jesus again speaks in John 16:13-15 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.  He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.  All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

4  How is the Word made real to us?

The Apostle Paul was teaching in 1 Corinthians 2:9-14
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”  But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.  For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.  These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

        5.  What should we as Christians do with God's Word?

Hebrews 2:1-3 tells us to pay attention what it has to say. “ Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him - -”

2 Timothy 2:15 Tells us to Study it; “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Joshua 1:2-8 Urges us to Meditate on it and don't stray from it.

This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.

Psalms 1:2 King David says to Delight yourself in it. “But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law he does meditate day and night.”

5. Is our Bible of any real value to us?

Hebrews 4:2 (Only when we believe it.) “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto others: but the word preached did not profit them, as they were not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Romans 10:17 (We build our faith by hearing it. And hear yourself speak it)

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Acts 20:32 (The Word builds us up) Paul is teaching; And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
