THE WORD OF GOD - - Introduction


May I suggest that you have a pen and paper handy to take down the scripture references. 

 It is good to read the scriptures for yourself. If your “real” bible is handy and you are quick, you may turn and read the scripture.  If you can print this out, it would be good to keep.

The Bible is the Word of God speaking to you. “Thus saith the Lord” is repeated over two thousand times from Exodus to Deuteronomy.

God and His Word are one.

The Word is always now. 2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

Jesus is the Word, and He is the Living Word. Jesus is called the Logos. Jesus is the Logos, and the Logos is a living thing - - not only in the book, not only on the written page, - - but also on the lips of the believer.

Hebrews 4:12 (Moffat Translation) “The Logos of God is a living thing, active and more cutting than any sword with double edges penetrating to the very division of soul and spirit, joint and marrow, scrutinizing the very thoughts and conceptions of the heart.”

There are two Greek words for “Word” Logos and Rhema. Rhema is the spoken word, but in a more specific sense. Logos is the entire or whole Word of God.  Rhema is a portion, or a promise; made real to you by the Holy Spirit, that as you then speak out; using it as your own words.

Romans 10:8-10; But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Ephesians 6:17 And take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

The Word is our Contact with God. John 6:44-45 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets,  ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.

John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 

God convicts us by the Word.

John 16: 8-9 And when The Holy Spirit has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  of sin, because they do not believe in Me; and of righteousness, because I go to My Father;

At Pentecost, Peter uses the Scriptures to rebuke Israel for crucifying its Messiah. His sermon using the Word of God, resulted in three thousand souls being convicted and accepting Christ (Acts 2:37,41.)


We are recreated by the Word.

James 1:18  God chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.



The Word imparts to us Eternal Life
2 Corinthians 5:17-18 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:  The old has gone, the new is here!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:


Our Minds are renewed by the Word
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will ishis good, pleasing and perfect will.


Colossians 3:10 And you have put on the new [spiritual] self who is being continually  renewed in true knowledge in the image of Him who created the new self—

James 1:22 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

We are indwelt by the Word.     We abide in Christ
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

John 15:7-8  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you  will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.  By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

It is not only committing the Word to memory, which is valuable, but it allowing that Word to become an integral part of our being.


The Word lives in us.
Ephesians 3:17-19 So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.…

Let the Word have “RIGHT OF WAY” in your life. This is allowing Christ the right-of-way. The Word dominating you is the Lordship of Christ IN you.
