Communion and "Separation"

Communion and "Separation"

Communion is a time that we reflect on the death, burial, resurrection and soon coming of Jesus. However it also is a time for us to examine ourselves and consider the word “Separation.”

Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 6:18 Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you." "I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty."

As Christians we must understand that we cannot worship God and mix the teachings, philosophies, traditions, that do not line up with God's word; Even those that sound so good but are not biblical. There are beautiful ceremonies and observances that have no basis with the Bible and its instructions. We must go a step further and actually separate ourselves from these and also from other things that have a background in the occult, witchcraft and spiritualism because they are demonic.

Let us separate ourselves from the world and its worldly ways, and may I be so bold to request that as you go home today, to clear out any magazines, or books of the occult, including, horoscope readings, zodiac, and yoga. Yes, Remove from your home any pictures or images of Buddha, and other revered images, you might have in your possession. It is time to separate ourselves once and for all from our past and any behavior that may not have been pleasing to our precious Lord. Determine today to separate yourself onto God alone. Make that decision now in your mind to follow up on this when you arrive home and to clean your house and destroy what ever God reveals to you.

Paul goes on in 1 Corinthians chapter 10 about the communion or Lord's supper. He says we cannot mix the worldly worship even though at times it is cleverly hidden from us and we accept it as okay.

There is an underlying insidious lurking of the devil to divide our attention away from Jesus, his body and His blood.

1 Corinthians 10: 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 18 Consider the people of Israel:  are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? 19 What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. 22 Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Lord God in heaven; We search our hearts today and ask forgiveness for all the times we failed to obey your voice. Teach us to listen and make those quick adjustments in our hearts. We come today remembering our Lord's walk on earth, his death, his resurrection, and we anticipate His soon return. Amen

In the upper room, Christ instituted communion with His words and actions. As we retell His story, we are reminded of his promise to forgive us and to be among us. Thank you Jesus for your presence here now.

Today we come to the table to remember the Lord Jesus. We are reminded of His love for us, and his willing sacrifice of His body and His blood.

Reading from Luke 22: On the night that he was betrayed, he took bread, blessed it and broke it and said, Take eat, this is my body which is given for you; do in remembrance of me.

Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.   Drink ye all of it.    Amen
