Memorizing Scripture!

Image
Memorizing Scripture! As young children, our mother would read a chapter from the Bible each morning before breakfast. Mother also assigned us a memory verse to learn by the end of the week. We started out with John 3:16 and went on to the 23 rd Psalm. Other than the 23 rd Psalm, we did not memorize entire chapters, but only verses connected together to give us assurance, confidence and peace. I probably should have done better with my own children. The Bible was read to them, and stories told. They did learn verses at Sunday school and Bible Club, but I failed to emphasize memorization at home. Some of the verses contained words unfamiliar to me when I was young, but they are very real to me now. Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. As time went on and my walk with t...

Let the Breath of God now Breathe on Me.

Image
Let the Breath of God now Breathe on Me. I was reminded of the old Hymn, Let it breathe on me, let it breathe on Me, Let the Breath of God now breathe on me. In the beginning God created the world and all that is therein with words. He spoke and it was so. However when he created man God formed him from the dust of the earth, and to give him life; God breathed on him and he became a living soul. When you speak, it’s through your breath that the words take form. Just imagine that: God speaking, His breath comes out, and there you have the Word of God, "Let there be light." That is where the Gospel of John says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." They are all separate, but at the same time, they are all one, just as when you breathe and you speak, your words can be one with you. And so it is written, the first Adam was made a living soul. The last Adam was made a quickening - (life giving-) Spirit - I Corinthians 1...

Image
Fire Cider Instant For a sore Throat or bad cold. Here’s the recipe (makes 8 oz): DOUBLE the RECIPE for 16 oz 1/3 cup Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar. 1/3 cup lemon juice or the juice of 2 lemons. 1 teaspoon ground cayenne. 1 teaspoon ground ginger. 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric. Pinch of cracked black pepper. 1/3 cup of raw honey Directions (I use a glass 2 or 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup to mix it) Add lemon juice, vinegar, and spices to your jar Add honey to bring up to 8 ounces. Stir until honey dissolves. Funnel ingredients into a small glass jar (like a mason jar or glass bottle) Shake well to mix before each use. Store in the refrigerator It can last several weeks in the refrigerator, but you will likely use it all up over the duration of your cold. Shake before each use, as the ground spices settle. Large Fresh lemons are best. When severely congested, take 1 teaspoon every 15 minutes for an hour then switch to...

When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do !!

Image
When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do !! In reading the book of Romans, my mind wandered to that old cliche, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." How does this idiom parallel the scripture? Well, let us look at a good definition of this phrase, taken from dictionary.com  as follows: "When visiting a foreign land, follow the customs of those who live in it. It can also mean that when you are in an unfamiliar situation, you should follow the lead of those who know the ropes." The apostle Paul surely knew the ropes of Rome. Being a staunch Jew, and converted persecutor of those of “The Way" (Christians), he had experienced both sides of the proverbial fence. (Philippians 1:2) Acts Chapter 21, Paul has returned to Jerusalem and (predictably ) he is accosted by an angry Jewish mob. The Roman officer assigned to protect Paul interrogates him about being the leader of a specific band of terrorists or assassins) also mentioned by the historian...

Communion Service  -  A Time to "Forget NOT" The title of my message is “Forget Not.” Another way of saying forget not; is to say, remember this. Today as we meet at the Lord's table to celebrate communion, let us prepare to remember the Lord's death, burial and resurrection. We are reminded that we are to “Forget not,” but to remember - - to consider - - to think about it - - to meditate quietly about all that Jesus did for us. We examine our hearts and repent of any sins that have not been placed at the foot of the Cross. Can you remember the recent teaching or sermon you heard. You will probably say, “it was good. It encouraged me, I learned something, but I can't remember exactly what it was about.” It is important to exercise your memory. A game that is often played at a baby shower or wedding shower is to bring out a tray with 10 or 12 small items on it.   Give the guests 3 or 4 minutes to view the items, then cover it with a towel or blanket. ...

Read to Your Baby

Image
When our first born was very young, we had been gifted a picture book with farm animals in it.     I would point to the figures and say, horse, cow, sheep, duck, chicken and so on - - naming each item in the pictures. Then I would touch his mouth and say, “mouth,” and in turn, touch and speak words for his nose, ear, eye, and tummy with a little tickle and a laugh. Also at bed time I would sing the old hymns that he was hearing at Church.  He developed a love of books and began to talk distinctly at an early age.   If I knew then what I knew now; I would have done the same thing with our second and third daughters.    I must have been too occupied with others things because I failed to read and take the time individually with my girls.   Both girls were late to speak clearly enough to be understood and although both of them can read, neither love books the way our first born does.   Studies show that children from the time th...

I was Lost

Image
I was Lost Yesterday is gone, Today has come without a song, I weep - - for I am Lost! Tomorrow holds no hope For all is no more, I weep - - for I am lost! Where shall I walk today? Where shall I find the way? I am afraid! - - for I am Lost! The Savior’s outstretched hands appear, I see my name is written there, I am not lost - - for He has found me! Come unto me He gently calls, No longer shall you roam, Heaven is your eternal home, The Shepherd whispers, Let me wipe away your tears, I shall calm all your fears, I have found you, no cause for alarm, For you are safe in My strong arms! Today is His, tomorrow is His, My future is secure, I weep no more. I know who holds tomorrow, for He holds my hand Hazel Irene Moon 2011
