Bible Foundations Lesson 30 Subject: Resurrection

The resurrection of the dead is a basic fundamental truth of the Gospel.

Jesus became the first fruits of the dead when he was resurrected from the dead. Jesus was the first one to receive His new resurrected body.

By man (Adam) came death, and by 'man' (Jesus) came also resurrection life.

In Adam all die physically and died spiritually, even so “In” Christ Jesus we shall all be made alive.

Paul faced the threat of physical death, but it did not frighten him.  Rather to him, it made little difference, because he knew he would go to be with our Lord if they killed his physical body. Paul said, “I die daily,” but what he meant was he died to sin and the old man did not control him, because he gave the new man inside him, the right and permission to live for Jesus.

1 Corinthians 15:12-20 Reminds us that there will be a physical change in our bodies at the Rapture (Resurrection). Our resurrected body will not be like our present body. Our present body is sown as a seed and dies, and God causes our new body to come forth in it's new glory.

Our old body is natural, but our new body will be supernatural.

The final resurrection is more than just an event. Jesus said that He was the resurrection and the Life.  John 11:25-26

Eternal life can never die spiritually.

Understand that our new body is very real. Our resurrected body will be like the resurrected body of the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 3:2 When He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.

In His resurrected body, Jesus ate and drank, and the disciples touched him. Luke 24:36-43

However, because his body was changed and now different, Jesus could appear to his friends in a room that was locked, and he could simply disappear from their sight.

We can expect to eat and drink in our resurrected body.

Matthew 26:29 “But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's Kingdom."

Understand there are trees bearing fruit in heaven, and God is preparing a huge banquet for us, called the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Our new resurrected body will not be a spirit, but it will be spiritual.

Our present Body is Flesh and blood, and we are a natural person. Our life is in our blood. Lev 17:11

Our new Resurrected Body will be flesh and bone, Luke 24:39

Our present body is weak and gets tired and infirmed, but our new body will never be weary or sick.

Our present body is corruptible and is susceptible to sickness, disease, decay and death.

Our new body will be incorruptible and immortal and will never die. We shall live eternally

Philippians 3:20-21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Please read 1 Corinthians chapter 15 which is the resurrection chapter.

Understand, there are two resurrections. One to everlasting life and one to everlasting contempt.

First - -     The resurrection of those who have invited Jesus into their life.
Second - - The resurrection of those who rejected Jesus and are the unrighteous.

We shall consider the timeline and the FIRST resurrection takes place prior to the great tribulation period.

This is the resurrection of the Saints.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 1 Corinthians 14:51-56

The dead in Christ shall rise first, then the living believers shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

All the hosts of the redeemed then return to the earth to rule and reign with Christ a thousand years. This time is often called “the Millennium” or the 1000 years of rest.

Revelations 20:4-6 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshiped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years.

There will be a final Judgment, and all are judged from the books of God. Those who rejected Jesus, the unrighteous ones and death and hell, are cast into the lake of fire. (Those whose names are not found in the Book of Life.)

Those whose names are in the Book of Life (the people who received Jesus into their heart, and followed Him,) will enter into that which God has prepared for them who love him.  It will be so much more glorious than we can even imagine.

Revelations 21:27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Today is the time to make certain that your name is in the Book of Life. Simply tell Jesus that you believe He is the Messiah, God's only begotten son, that he died on the cross for your sins (and mine) and that He rose from the dead after three days and is now seated in heaven and prays for you. Invite Jesus into your life, and he will give you his eternal life and will make certain that your name is written there.
