God's Grace: Lesson 14

God's Grace: Lesson 14

When we think of God's grace, we must consider the Gracious One who bestows grace and then also the recipient of this grace.

  1. God, the Gracious One, from whom all grace proceeds;

1 Peter 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

Grace comes from God, through our Lord Jesus Christ:

John 1:16-17 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:4-5  I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him, so that you do not come short in any gift, in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. The Grace that is bestowed, that is: Love, kindness, mercy, (fruit of the Spirit,) Gifts of the Holy Spirit, strength, ministry, and every favor and blessing.

  2. The Receiver of God's Grace: Romans 12:6-8 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Grace is anything and everything that is bestowed by God upon one who has found favor in His eyes. It is totally unearned and undeserved. It is free to the receiver from the Giver who is God..

Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all those who are of the faith.

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; and the work is not valid.

The source of Grace is God. We therefore come to Him for the grace we so sorely need.

Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The grace of God is manifold. Anything and everything we need is by God's grace.

1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God

John 1:16,17  And of his fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

  1. We are saved by Grace. Ephesians 2:8  For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God .

  2. We are justified by Grace. Romans 3:24 We have been justified freely by His Grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus - -

  3. We are established by Grace. Hebrews 13:9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace

  4. We grow in Grace. 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  5. We stand by Grace. Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

  6. We are strong in Grace. 2 Timothy 2:1 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus

  7. We abound in Grace. 2 Corinthians 8:7 Since you abound in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see that you abound in this grace also.

  8. We reign in Grace. Romans 5:17 For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

The Bible speaks of those who, “are fallen from grace”. (Because they trust in works instead of trusting God's Grace)

Galatians 5:1-4 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.  Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.  And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.  You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

Colossians 2:16-23 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.  Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels. Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations? “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” which all concern things which perish with the using — according to the commandments and doctrines of men? These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

There are those who believe they are eternally secure and can therefore do anything they want. They feel they can sin and keep on sinning and God's grace will cover it all. This is gross error.

Romans 6:12-16 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.  What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!  Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Jude 4  False teachers are ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

There certainly is forgiveness for those who confess and turn from their sin.

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Thank God for His marvelous Grace.
