A Tale of Two Cities

A Tale of Two Cities

In school, many were required to read the book A Tale of Two Cities 1859 historical novel by Charles Dickens, during the French Revolution.

Today I want to speak to you about two cities in the Bible. The first city was Nineveh and God desired to save it; but the prophet Jonah did not want to go there and preach, because he felt they deserved to be punished because of their wickedness. In his heart he refused to pray over them a blessing as he thought it would be God's justice to destroy them all, so he ran the other way. Of course that only got Jonah in trouble, because now he was in rebellion - - and in God's sight he was a guilty as the evil persons in that city. However after being swallowed by a whale, and a long three days, and being vomited out on dry land Jonah went to Nineveh to preach. Yes the people listened and the people repented and worshiped God; so God decided NOT to destroy them that day. (You see - - as time went by, the believers relaxed and turned back to their evil and wicked ways, and in the end God did destroy them)

The next city we will consider are the twin cities of Sodom/Gomorrah and Abraham prayed that God would not destroy them. He asked God to save the city if there were even 30 innocent people there, but God said, I can't find 30. Abraham kept lowering the number until he reached five persons who were righteous, but God said, I can't even find five; and I will destroy them because they have hardened their hearts and refuse to repent from their wicked ways.

So God allowed Abraham to warn his nephew Lot and his wife and two daughters and they fled the city just in time. Lot's wife had friends there, and she regretted having to leave what she felt was a familiar place to her, so she turned her head and looked back- - and you will remember that she turned into a pillar of salt. It is not always good to look back !

So what about today? We see some terrible things happening. How should we pray?

Some may suggest, that maybe we should not pray at all because perhaps God is angry and wants to bring America down, and this might be his plan.

The thought was that perhaps God desires to punish America because we silently stood by as God was removed from our Schools, and our Governmental offices. We were silent when the ten commandments were removed from State and Government offices and we have voted for people with no morals, who kill the unborn even up to the day they are born naturally.

Should we should just allow America to be destroyed by these wicked people organizing these riots and terror which includes the burning of homes, businesses, and even the murder of the innocent.

I would dare to say that God is NOT happy with all that has happened in the past few years here in America and he is NOT pleased with today's terror. God is not pleased that our Congress our Senate and a former President are condoning the destruction of Historical monuments and defacement of properties and killing our police and others.

HOWEVER - - as I do the count - - it is evident that there is a HUGH army of Godly Christian people who are innocent and are righteous, and do not deserve to have our United States turned over to reprobates.

We do NOT need to give up and declare a truce - - NO we must pray and take our authority over the Spiritual forces that are driving these people who plan and execute unjust terror in our streets.

We as believers can and should make declarations to the Judge who sits on the Throne in heaven to put a STOP ORDER on this mess we see before us. God is waiting for our voice to request that the ones in charge or this epidemic to either repent and turn to God or that they will themselves be put to nothing.

It is NOT time to harden your heart and be hateful toward those who are doing this, but to understand that we are in a war against spiritual forces, and not against flesh and blood.

God is Merciful and we must pray and rebuke the spirits behind this turmoil. It is up to us to Hold High the light of the Gospel of Christ Jesus because God desires all persons to come to Jesus and be saved from their wicked ways. God so loved the World that he gave Jesus, and God has not changed his mind. God Loves America, and God loves the world.
