Who is Jesus? Chapter 52 The Burial of Jesus

Now there was a rich man named Joseph of Arimathea, a secret disciple of Jesus. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God.

This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. So Pilate summoning the centurion soldier, he asked him whether Jesus was indeed dead.  The soldier said, yes, for just to make sure, I thrust my sword into his side, and out came blood and water.  Yes, indeed he is most certainly dead.  And when Pilate learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph.

Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. So, they took the body of Jesus and wrapped him in a linen shroud with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.

Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden was Josephs own new tomb in which no one had yet been laid; that had been cut out of the rock. And they placed the body of Jesus there and rolled a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.

It was the Jewish day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning. The women who had come with him from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how his body was laid. Then the women returned home and prepared spices and ointments for after the Sabbath day. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’ So as to be on the safe side, we ask that you will order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, unless his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.”

So, Pilate granted to them, a guard of soldiers, saying “Go, make it as secure as you can.” So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.

Understand that death could not hold Jesus the Messiah. Yes, they killed him, and satan rejoiced, because the devil thought he had won. But something was happening even in those 3 days while Jesus was dead in his body . . . his spirit was still alive and He was in Paradise preaching to the old testament saints telling them that HE is the Messiah. Jesus was telling them that those who receive him as the Savior of the world, will be with him eternally in heaven.

Friends, If you have not already done so, will you say yes to Jesus today, and invite Him into your heart which is your spirit. God has only Good plans for you. He calls, Come and allow me to make you into a new creation. - - a better one than before. Your physical body will not change, but inside you will become different, and the Bible says you will be a new creature in
Christ Jesus.
