Who is Jesus? Chapter 30 Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery

As he often did, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives to pray, and about dawn he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down to teach them.  Soon the Religious leaders and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and had her stand before them. They said to Jesus; “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such a women.  So what do you say?”  This they said to test him, so they might have some charge to bring against him.

Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to question him, he stood up and said to them; “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”  And once more he stooped down and continued to write in the dust.

(I have often wondered what Jesus was writing in the dust of the ground. Do you suppose he was writing the names of those accusers who were guilty of this very sin?) What ever it was that he wrote - - conviction set in and those who heard him began to leave one by one, first the older ones, and finally, Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.

Jesus stood up and said to her; “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on - - go and sin no more.” The woman knew it was time for a life style change because she owed her life to Jesus. He had just rescued her from a death by stoning.

The crowd had observed all this and were amazed at his wisdom. Again Jesus spoke to them, saying; “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Jesus did not accept the woman's act of adultery as an okay thing to do. Rather than judge her, He forgave her and told her to stop living this way and to change her occupation.

Perhaps even today Jesus is telling us here that somethings we need to stop, and to change and to sin no more. Each of us has maybe not the same sin as this woman, but we all have something that God is not pleased with us doing, and although he loves us, he is also telling us that for our own good, we need to make some changes.

When God created Adam and Eve in the garden; (man and woman) His perfect plan was for man and woman to leave their father and mother and live together in harmony enjoying one another.

After all, sex was God's idea. God intention was for marriage to be holy and sex inside of marriage to be lawful and right and enjoyed.

Paul reminded us in Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be kept honorable in every way, and the marriage bed is holy and is not defiled. For God will judge those who commit sexual sins, especially those who commit adultery.

Paul continue in his letter to the Ephesians chapter 5: "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.   Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater — has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)  and find out what pleases the Lord, and do as is satisfying to Him.

If you are being tempted to engage in sex outside of marriage, let me suggest: If you both consider yourselves to be in love, it is up to the man to bring a lawful and legal solution to your union. If he truly loves the woman, he will take action to be united with her in marriage which not only brings respect to the woman he loves, but legal rights and financial gains for her if he should die first.

Jesus cared for the woman and gave her a choice. It was up to her to make those decisions and discover a new way to live.

Today out of God's love for you; Jesus is asking you to decide to put Him first and to obey his plans for you and for your life. Are you willing to allow God to have His will in all your plans for your life?

It is a wise person who will say Yes today to Jesus and invite him into your plans and your life. Any changes that need to be taken care of, will only be for your best interest, as Jesus has only good plans for you and your loved ones.
